Solicitor suspended over ‘blue badge’ misuse

Misuse of a ‘blue badge’ for disabled parking has seen a solicitor suspended from practice after prosecution by the London Borough of Ealing.

Following her conviction at Ealing Magistrates’ Court, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal suspended Nina Koushi for six months in a case brought by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Ms Koushi had pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ hearing and was fined £1,125 plus costs of £690.92 and a victim surcharge of £181. The tribunal additionally imposed a £2,300 costs order on her.

The tribunal heard that on 12 November 2019 Ms Koushi parked her car in a disabled space, using disabled person’s parking badge which she was not entitled to use and that she did so with intent to deceive.

It said this conduct breached Principles 2 and 6 of the SRA Principles 2011 and she also gave untrue statements about the badge to an Ealing fraud investigator.
